Dr. Burcu Kucukkeles, Assistant Professor of Strategy at Amsterdam Business School of the University of Amsterdam, completed her PhD studies in management at ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Technical University), where she was awarded the ETH Medal for her dissertation. Before starting her PhD, she studied industrial engineering and economics and gained industry experience in various positions.
Her research lies in the intersection of strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship. In her research, she focuses on the phenomena of technology and societal challenges. She has a keen interest in understanding the practices of how organizational actors identify new uses of existing resources, namely repurposing, and how technology plays a role in such practices. She has conducted several multi-year studies in the pharmaceutical industry, on drug repurposing and rare diseases in particular, by interviewing over a hundred pharma executives and researchers. Results of her research got published in top management journals and have been recognized by several awards, including the Responsible Research in Management Award.
She has taught courses in strategy, organization theory, and innovation in management programs at different levels and in different institutions. Recently, she has supervised several master theses on understanding the artificial intelligence phenomenon and the use of technology to offer solutions for societal challenges.
